How we handle
your chat.
We don’t read or save your chats. Every model here requires zero data retention and no training on your conversations.
Last updated October 21, 2026We don’t read or save your chats. No chat viewer. No saved conversation history.
No retention. No training. Both are required for every model request.
No account. No tracking.Ask a question without creating a profile.
Where your messages go
Your chat is held in this tab’s memory. To generate an answer, it passes through our server and an approved AI provider.
Your browser
Holds your chat for follow-up questions. Refresh or leave the page to clear it.
Our server and Vercel AI Gateway
Process your messages and send them to an approved AI provider. Our app does not save questions or answers in a database, log, file, or cache.
The AI provider
Generates your answer under a zero data retention agreement with Vercel. Every request requires no retention and no model training. If no provider meets these requirements, the request stops.
Files you ask the AI to create follow the same privacy rules. Your browser builds each download from the answer. We don’t host or save those files.
When you attach a document, your browser reads its text. Images are resized and copied without their original metadata; scanned PDF pages are converted to image copies on your device. Only when you send a question do the text, image copies and filename go to the AI through the same zero data retention connection. We don’t upload or keep the original file, use a file-storage service, or save attachment contents. Recent attachments can accompany follow-up questions. Refreshing or leaving the page clears the app’s copy; your original stays on your device.
Calculations run on your device in an isolated space with no web or device-file access. Their results can go back to the AI through the same private connection to help it finish your answer. Use Stop answer, refresh, or leave the page to stop a calculation.
What we save
We keep the settings and daily totals needed to run the service, plus misconduct reports you explicitly send. We don’t keep your conversation.
We don’t save
- Your chat messages or AI answers
- A chat history or user profile
- IDs for chat users, devices, or sessions
- IP addresses in our app’s database
- Tracking cookies, pixels, or visitor analytics
We save
- The admin’s AI instructions and past versions
- Available models and service settings
- Daily totals per model: requests, text units (tokens), and cost
- A shared admin login-attempt count that expires after 15 minutes
Our admin dashboard has no chat viewer. These daily totals cannot show or recreate your conversation. Questions you choose to send to the public question service and misconduct reports are handled separately, as explained below.
Preparing and sharing a question for a lawyer
Both chat modes use the same zero data retention connection. In Prepare a question for a lawyer mode, the AI helps you organize your situation and prepare an editable draft. The AI is not a lawyer. Your mode choice and question draft stay in this tab’s memory and clear when you refresh or leave.
Switching modes keeps your conversation, unsent text, attachments and question edits. It changes the next reply. Review edits are shared through the private AI connection with your next message, so explanations and revisions use your wording. Editing or switching modes does not send a message by itself.
Before you can submit here, a separate AI privacy check looks for personal and sensitive details in your title and question. Your original text passes through the same zero data retention connection. Detected details are replaced with placeholders, and you see the removals and the exact final title and question. The AI handles the privacy review. AI can miss details, and any edits require another AI check. Nothing is sent to the public question service during this check.
Choose Approve and send to approve the displayed version and consent to storage and public publication at instalawhq.com, which can happen immediately. The notice and that service’s terms and privacy links appear beside the action. We never submit automatically. We send only the checked title and question, U.S. jurisdiction and practice area. The submission is labeled as sent by AI, without a public name. We don’t attach your chat, files, original draft, or list of removals, or forward your browser’s cookies or IP address. No account is required.
Submitted questions are saved by that service and can become public immediately. Its terms and privacy policy apply; chat zero data retention does not cover submitted questions. Clearing this chat does not delete a submitted copy. The receipt shows whether your question was published or is pending review; a pending question’s page may be unavailable until approval. An answer is not guaranteed. If receipt cannot be confirmed, the question may still have arrived; sending again could create a duplicate.
Your receipt stays beside the draft after you close review, change modes or continue chatting. Use it to open your question or copy its link. We do not check for status changes or answers in the background. Copy the link before refreshing or leaving clears the receipt; copied links stay on your device under its own settings.
You can also choose to copy your draft or open instalawhq.com/questions in another tab. The link contains no question or conversation. These manual actions do not submit through the privacy check or guarantee that copied text has been redacted. Preparing or submitting a question does not create an attorney-client relationship.
Misconduct reports are saved
Misconduct reporting is a simple form that does not use AI. Your report is never sent to AI providers. Its draft stays in this tab’s memory until you choose Send report. Refreshing or leaving clears an unsent draft. We never attach your conversation or chat files to a report.
After you review the details and consent, we save the company, concern, incident description, any dates, impact, supporting information, optional name and email, a random report reference, consent version, receipt time, and review status in our database. InstaLaw’s authenticated administrator can read, mark reviewed, and permanently delete reports. Reports stay in the active database until an administrator deletes them; database provider backups may retain deleted data under the deployment’s backup settings.
Sending a report is an intentional disclosure to InstaLaw. The no-retention promise for AI chats does not apply to submitted reports. We do not publish reports or automatically forward them to a government agency. Providing contact details is optional and allows InstaLaw to follow up. Sending a report does not create an attorney-client relationship or guarantee a response or investigation.
Share only what is needed. Do not include passwords, full financial account numbers, or unnecessary information about other people. Downloaded report copies remain on your device.
No retention. No training.
Zero data retention (ZDR) means the AI provider agrees not to keep your questions or answers after processing your request. We also require that your messages are not used to train models.
We use Vercel AI Gateway and regularly check which providers qualify. We exclude models with retention exceptions and providers that automatically cache messages. We do not request caching or use separate provider access keys. A model is unavailable here if we cannot confirm it meets our rules.
Your messages still pass through our server, Gateway, and the selected provider to generate an answer. The AI does not run on your device, and this is not end-to-end encrypted chat.
What this does not cover
Connection and security details
Vercel hosts this service. It processes details such as your IP address to deliver messages and prevent abuse. It may keep some of these details for security and operations under its own policies. Our app does not save them or link daily totals to you. This service does not make you anonymous online.
Your device and anything you share
Browser extensions, your device, clipboard copies, downloaded files, screenshots, and websites you choose to use may keep information separately. A copied answer stays wherever you paste it. A downloaded file stays on your device after you clear the chat. Questions you explicitly submit are retained by the public question service. AI can make mistakes. Check important information and share only the details you need to.
Cookies
The chat app uses no cookies. The separate admin site uses a secure cookie to keep its single admin signed in.
Protect your child’s information
This service is for adults, not for children to use on their own. Ask family questions without sharing a child’s name, school, location, or other identifying details. Talk about what is safe to share online and review privacy settings together.
Check how your data is used
Before using a service, check what it collects, how long it keeps it, and who it shares it with. An AI service can store your messages even if it says it does not use them for training.
Data brokers collect and sell personal information. To ask one to remove yours, start with its privacy and opt-out instructions. You may need to follow up. No tool can guarantee that every copy of your information is erased from the internet.
Start with a few changes
- Check which apps can access your camera, location, and contacts.
- Keep your devices updated.
- Use a different password for each account and turn on two-step sign-in.
- Share only the details needed for a question.
